SL14B Get Your Shop On

Sl14Bshopping

Okay fellow freebie lovers, if you haven’t heard it yet, you might need to grab a paper bag and sit down least you faint.  Drum roll please… Linden labs is hosting a Pre-Birthday SHOPPING event!

The 14th Anniversary shopping event spans 3 sims hosting 60 merchants.  Each designer is giving one absolutely FREE birthday gift making a grand total of 60 no-hassle, no-group-required freebies.  SPOILER ALERT:  Several of the shops are giving more than one free gift!

Don’t bother running out to the kitchen to grab a sandwich and a super sipper expecting to settle in for an epic freebie rich blog entry.  I’m saving the SL14B gift previews for the upcoming blogs.

This blog entry is all about the gigantic elephant in our beloved virtual world.  Huh? What elephant, where?  I’m referring to our lovingly crafted and dearly paid for avatars.  All the mesh attachments and nifty huds that make our avatars super fab create nothing but chaos when hundreds of us flock to the same sim.

Lag rage is a fun killer!  So do yourself a favor, instead of avoiding cool events that attract tons of people, simplify your avatar.  I recommend picking up the FREE Nomi Nomi avatar.

Nomi Nomi by KabisCube is free, full-perm, low in complexity, requires no attached huds, and is incredibly cute.  Nomi actually looks like it is skipping when the avatar walks.

I’m not sure what was more fun, grabbing the freebies at the SL14B Shopping Event in record time, or laughing at the skipping bobble of Nomi on the move.  What I can say with a certainty is that Iona from “Almost the Whole Enchilada” post simply could not navigate the shopping sims.  She crashed 4 times, had serious trouble crossing the sims, and got stuck lag walking more times than a person should admit.

Nomi, on the other hand, breezed past everyone skipping hither and yon with no problems whatsoever.

  1. Backup your normal look by making an outfit.
  2. Unpack Nomi Nomi
  3. Right click the unpacked Nomi folder and select “replace current outfit”
  4. Choose the color you’d like for Nomi.
  5. Right click the color hud and detach it.
  6. TP to the SL14B Shopping Event.
  7. If you want to add more speed to your shopping lower your draw distance settings.
